Author The war between records and CDs is an old one. Most of us barely even use CDs anymore, not when there are so many other ways to get our music. However, for those of us undeterred by the hustle and bustle of the retail ritual, the old war lives on and one has to ask – are records really better than CDs?
The short answer is yes. Sure CDs might be smaller and more convenient but nothing quite compares to a fine crafted vinyl, but that isn’t the only reason. The process for writing or burning music onto CDs is a streamlined process that lacks both the robust ingenuity and superb craftsmanship of a produced vinyl. Elements of the music and sound, the clarity, are chopped off and chucked in the data storage process that goes into producing a CD. Vinyl uses a wider range of frequency. Even if it doesn’t make sense to you on paper, your ears know the difference.
You might disagree. You might believe that CDs are, in fact, better than vinyl records and you are welcome to that opinion but remember – CDs are facing the same problems with new music formats that records one faced. One day you may find your precious CDs as obsolete as the records we all adore.
